Princess of Hope
Right on the Makran Coastal Highway is where it is located. The Princess of Hope is a naturally occurring rock structure in Pakistan that is sometimes referred to as a "fairy chimney" or hoodoo. Its shape has led some people to speculate (see mimetolith) that it represents a woman with a skirt and crown peering out into the distance. It is roughly 190 km (120 km) from Pakistan's financial center, Karachi, and 717 km (446 mi) from Quetta, the province capital.
The oddly shaped rock pinnacle can be found in the Lasbela District of the province of Balochistan's Hingol National Park, a mountainous area riven with scenic gorges and home to unique rock and mud formations that have been sculpted into their current forms by the processes of erosion. The Makran, a coastal strip including parts of Iran's coastline, includes the Lasbela District.
Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie named the creation Princess of Hope after visiting Pakistan in 2002 as a UN Goodwill Ambassador, visiting the country's Hingol National Park. Jolie came up with the name on the spot as an impromptu, personal response to the monolith's form, and it stayed because it clearly catered to the local sensibilities of the time.
Not far from the "Princess" is another sphinx-shaped natural rock structure named the "Balochistan Sphinx" (also referred to as the "Lion of Balochistan" or Abul-Hol), which can be seen from the Makran Coastal Highway's Buzi Pass portion.
