Katpana Desert

Situated in District Shigar, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, the Katpana Desert, also known as the Cold Desert, is a high-altitude desert close to Skardu. Large sand dunes can be seen in the desert; occasionally, snow covers them in the winter. One of the world's highest deserts, the Katpana Cold Desert is located 2,226 meters (7,303 feet) above sea level. The area of the desert that attracts the most tourists is near Katpana Lake, which is close to Skardu Airport, even though the desert officially extends from the banks of the Indus River in the south of the country to New Ranga Village in the north.

The highest temperature recorded was 27 °C (81 °F), while the lowest was 8 °C (46 °F) in October. In December and January, the temperature can drop as low as −17 °C (1 °F). There are rare occasions when the temperature falls to −25 °C (−13 °F).
